In a speech he delivered today, Sunday, during the annual conference of the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) at Reichsman University in Herzliya, Gantz held Iran responsible for creating “proxy terrorism” and creating “organized terrorist armies that help Tehran achieve its economic, political and military goals.”
The Israeli Defense Minister warned that drones with a range of thousands of kilometers constitute one of the most important tools used by the Iranians and their proxies, stressing that hundreds of these drones have been deployed in Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, among which Tehran is trying to transfer the knowledge needed to produce them to the Gaza Strip.
Gantz claimed that Iran is using the “Kashan” base, located north of the city of Isfahan, to train “terrorists from Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon” to use Iranian-made drones, saying: “This base is a major point through which Iranian air terrorism is being exported to the region.”
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the minister warned that the development and spread of drone technologies facilitate the implementation of such attacks, filtering out that “weak and deteriorating countries” will remain in the near future an arena for the presence and activities of “terrorist armies”.
Gantz pointed out that the priority in the fight against terrorism in these circumstances is due to the development of intelligence superiority, the strengthening of offensive capabilities, the implementation of focused assassination operations against key figures, in addition to the development and strengthening of integrated defense systems, including air defense and confronting terrorist threats.
Gantz accused Iran of not fulfilling its commitments within the framework of the 2015 nuclear deal, and stressed that it was time to act, calling on the members of the 5+1 group to impose the sanctions stipulated in this deal on Tehran.
