In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said: “The ships of the Russian naval fleet, in cooperation with the Chinese and Iranian navies, carried out, within the framework of practical measures, firing from artillery systems to hit targets, conducted tactical freedom and maneuver, and trained in search and rescue missions at sea.”
The statement added: “In the concluding phase of the CHIRU 2022 exercises, work was done to improve the parties’ practical capabilities to carry out inspections and to free a ship that was supposedly held by pirates.”
The Russian Defense Ministry indicated that an airdrop helicopter and special units of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards were involved in the operation to liberate the ship.
She explained that the exercises took place in the Gulf of Oman and the airspace above it in the northern waters of the Arabian Sea, with the participation of 14 combat ships and several support ships from the forces of the three countries.
