Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh commented on the targeting of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad airport, stressing his country’s condemnation of these “suspicious acts.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, according to what was reported by the country’s official news agency, saying that this action “comes in the course of destabilizing the security and stability of Iraq,” adding that “such suspicious acts would lead to destabilizing security and spreading chaos in Iraq and provide a way for opponents and sedition instigators and affect government services to citizens.

He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the establishment and maintenance of security in Iraq, its progress and development, and the dissemination of comprehensive security and territorial integrity in Iraq, and supports the Iraqi government’s measures to establish security and stability in the country.”

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement regarding the targeting of Baghdad International Airport, and said, “What happened at dawn today was targeting Baghdad Airport, although it was not the first. Other attacks preceded that, but this time it led to significant damage in one of the runways. The airport and two civilian aircraft in the southern area of the airport,” according to the Iraqi News Agency.
